Early Sunday morning, a man was fatally shot in Monterey Park.
On Saturday around noon a man was gunned down in South L.A. and another man was killed near Jefferson Park.
At least a dozen other people were wounded in separate incidents, including one in Van Nuys.
Two others were wounded in the North Hollywood area.
The victims in both shootings survived.
The "murder moratorium" began Friday evening to mark the 40th anniversary of the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr.
Despite falling short of the goal, activists behind the moratorium called the effort successful. Community leaders say they'll continue to campaign for peace in the local communities.
