MADD to testify for ignition locks

SACRAMENTO Matthias Mendezona is expected to testify before an assembly public safety committee to gather support for a bill that would require all convicted drunk drivers, even first-time offenders, to install alcohol ignition interlocks on their vehicles.

MADD said the ignition locks significantly reduce the number of alcohol-related deaths and injuries.

Opponents of the bill argue that drunk drivers will just find a way around them.
