Conversations may incriminate Carona

A judge will decide if privileged communications between former Orange County Sheriff Michael Carona and his wife will be part of an argument to sever her case from his in their upcoming corruption trial.Attorneys for Deborah Carona claim the conversations potentially exonerate her and potentially incriminate him.

Carona, his wife and Debra Hoffman, referred to in the indictment as his longtime mistress, are accused of selling the power of the sheriff's office in exchange for hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash and gifts.
