The man evaded police by turning off the lights on his pickup truck while driving in excess of 90 mph.
An officer in Carlsbad spotted the pickup near Interstate 5 and chased the suspect as he entered the freeway.
The assailant was finally pulled over in the 700 block of Raintree Avenue, according to police Lt. Marc Reno.
Vasquez was taken into custody by Escondido police and booked into county jail.
