A new vaccine may someday offer a greater chance of survival for breast cancer patients. The vaccine, called Neuvax, treats women with tumors that generate a specific protein called HER2.

Researchers at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas tested the vaccine in 163 women with those tumors.

It was shown to cut the risk of death in half.

The study also showed a lower recurrence of cancer for some treated with the vaccine.
