A union official said hundreds of paramedics and emergency medical technicians in Los Angeles County are ready to strike later this month if they do not approve of a new contract. There are 300 employees who work for the private ambulance company American Medical Response (AMR).

Their contract expired in September, but the union signed extensions through April 1.

The union expects to receive a contract offer Monday from AMR.

Workers want a 6 percent wage increase over three years, and for the company to pay 80 percent of health insurance costs.
