Possum arrest update
ANAHEIM It was reported that 54-year-old Lorenzo Oliver was arrested on animal abuse charges for beating a possum with a shovel. In fact, Oliver was not accused in the beating and was arrested for being an accessory to animal cruelty. The Anaheim City Attorney's office has since decided not to press any charges against Oliver because of insufficient evidence. A witness told police Oliver's son had hit a possum with a shovel. Another witness who claimed to have seen the incident said the possum was not hit with the shovel. The mother possum was later euthanized.
