Investigators say the 81-year old victim outside his house, when the suspect walked up and asked for directions.
After beating the man, the suspect forced his way inside and tied him up.
Before taking off, the robber ransacked the place and beat the man again.
The victim eventually freed himself and called police.
He was taken to the hospital, where he received dozens of stitches.
