2 lawmakers vie for L.A. supervisor seat

LOS ANGELES Both want to replace retiring Yvonne Brathwaite Burke.

State Senator Mark Ridley-Thomas and Los Angeles City Councilman Bernard Parks faced off in debate Thursday night.

"I just think I'm the best candidate for this position for a number of reasons. I've got the experience. I have the leadership ability. I have the view of government from a variety of levels," Parks said.

"I think people got a chance to see the differences in the two candidates, which I think is very important. I think they saw one who is prepared to articulate a vision as a leader," Ridley-Thomas said.

The two candidates debated at the Westside Jewish Community Center, with Eyewitness News Anchor Marc Brown as moderator.
