Hormone therapy increases stroke risk

The study involved more than 121,000 women.

Researchers found women who take estrogen have a 39 percent higher risk of stroke than those who have never taken it.

Women who take the combination of estrogen with progestin, which is a synthetic form of progesterone, had an increased risk of stroke of 27 percent.

The research is in Monday's archives of Internal Medicine.
