Drivers with dogs in lap may be fined

Drivers who allow their dogs to sit in their lap may soon face a fine.The state assembly passed a bill Monday banning motorists from holding their dogs in their lap.

The bill is now headed to the State Senate for a vote.

Under the bill, motorists caught with a dog on their lap would be fined $35.

Assemblyman Bill Maze of Visalia introduced the bill after seeing a woman driving with three dogs on her lap.

Maze says pets are a dangerous distraction.
