Auto thieves target catalytic converters

BURBANK One auto shop in Burbank has been burglarized four times in the last month.

The owner admits he did not contact authorities the first three times, after watching his surveillance video from the last incident, he went to police.

Thieves steal catalytic converters because they contain platinum, which goes for over $2,000 an ounce.

Mini-vans and sport utility vehicles with high ground clearance appear to be the favorite target of the thieves.

Anyone with information about the burglaries is urged to call the Burbank Police Department at (818) 238-3333.
