Lawmakers hope the new cigarettes will help cut down on deadly fires. Each year, about 800 people are killed by fires caused by cigarettes.
N.J. smokers puff safer cigarettes
The state is now requiring businesses to only sell self-extinguishing cigarettes. They have an extra band of paper, so if it's lit and you don't puff on it, it will automatically go out.
