Car insurers must comply with new rules

Car insurance companies that do business in California have a big deadline to meet Monday.California insurers must file plans by Monday to comply with rules against using zip codes to determine auto insurance rates.

The deadline comes 20 years after California voters enacted Proposition 103.

Under the landmark insurance initiative, auto insurance rates must be based on driving record safety, annual miles driven and experience, rather than on where you live or other non-driving factors.
