TV may hinder childhood development

LOS ANGELES According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, television can interfere with a child's mental focus.

Their recommendation is that babies and young toddlers shouldn't be exposed to any TV.

They also found that toddlers are sometimes distracted by TV, even when the programs are in the background, and the kids aren't watching them.

Researchers note that kids who grow up in homes where the TV is always on may have poorer mental development.
