July 17, 2008 12:00:00 AM PDT
Peak West Nile virus season is just weeks away and two Orange County residents have already tested positive for the infection, becoming the first confirmed human infections in Southern California in 2008.The West Nile virus was found in blood donated by two men, ages 41 and 23. Neither of them has developed symptoms.

West Nile virus season reaches its peak in August and September. The virus is carried by birds and transmitted through mosquitoes.

After a downswing the past two years, experts expect this to be a tough year with the virus on the rise again.
