L.A. Zoo opens after Griffith fire

GRIFFITH PARK Crews remained on the scene overnight, checking for any hot spots.

Investigators say the fire began about 12:40 p.m. near the mineral wells picnic area.

The fire headed toward travel town and the L.A. Zoo, and zoo officials evacuated 400,000 visitors as a precaution. They also evacuated some condors when the fire came within 1,000 feet of their enclosure.

Crews had the fire under control quickly after 25 acres burned.
