MTA to challenge voted down sales tax

August 6, 2008 8:46:51 AM PDT
The MTA promises a legal challenge after L.A. County Supervisors vote down a plan to put a half-cent sales tax on the November ballot. The proposed tax would generate an estimated $40 billion for public transportation projects over the next three decades.

Some supervisors felt the money would not be distributed equally around the county.

The measure must now be placed on a separate ballot, which could cost the MTA an extra $3 million in election costs.
