Police search for kidnapping suspect

EAGLE ROCK, Calif. Police say the 23-year-old victim was taken from an Eagle Rock bus stop on Saturday, July 26. The suspect allegedly pulled up and forced the victim into his car.

Police say after being assaulted and robbed, the victim was dropped off in a secluded area near Eagle Rock High School.

The suspect is described as Hispanic, 18 to 22 years old, 5' 7" to 5' 8" in height, weighing about 140 pounds. The suspect reportedly drove away in a royal or dark blue Honda Civic, which has distinguishing chrome rims.

Police do not believe they are dealing with a serial rapist.

"We've been checking with other LAPD stations and other law enforcement around here -- Glendale and Burbank and so on. So we have no indication at all that that's the case," said Captain William Murphy, Los Angeles Police Department.

However, authorities want to get the word out to women in the Eagle Rock area. They say women need to be aware of their surroundings.

"I just try not to be out too late. And if I do tend to have to be out too late, I try to take a cab instead of taking the bus," said Diane Wattson of Eagle Rock.

While detectives work on the leads they have left, the city is hoping a very substantial reward will lead to a break in this case.

"This week I will offer, through the city council, a reward for anyone that gives us information leading to the arrest and conviction of this individual," said Jose Huizar, Los Angeles City Council.

Police say the suspect is familiar with the Eagle Rock area and nearby communities. If you have any information, you are asked to call LAPD at (877) LAWFULL or (529-3855).
