The picture was part of a full-page Spanish newspaper ad for a courier company that sponsors Spain's Olympic teams.
It's unclear what the intent of the photograph was. There has yet been any explanation from the Spanish team, or comment from Chinese or Spanish officials.
In their most recent game, Spain trailed by 14 going into the fourth quarter against China, then won 85-75 in overtime after Yao Ming fouled out early in the extra session.
