Council wants more housing for the poor

LOS ANGELES On Wednesday the council approved a plan for inclusionary zoning. Under it, new apartment and condominium projects in affluent parts of Los Angeles could be required to include units for the poor.

The city council is expected to introduce a proposed law by the end of the year mandating developers build units for the poor.

Critics say developers could be required to set too many units aside for the poor.
