Schizophrenia may be passed with stress

An alarming study suggests that pregnant women who are subjected to acute stress may be passing on schizophrenia to their offspring.Researchers at NYU Medical School found that women who experience traumatizing stress while pregnant are more likely to have children who develop schizophrenia.

The study's lead doctor says acute stress can be caused by an earthquake or hurricane, a terrorist attack, or living in war zones.

Researchers say stress alters brain development in utero.
