Parks may take fiscal hit in new budget

September 2, 2008 5:34:11 AM PDT
While the battle over the state budget rages on in Sacramento, there's concern that state parks are taking a fiscal hit. The L.A. Times reports state parks have a deferred maintenance need of over $1 billion, but state budget negotiations only allot about $12 million to parks.

Some say that means needed repairs will be passed over, and parks won't be properly patrolled.

Parks programs are often the first slashed, taking a backseat to education, prisons and health and welfare programs.
