Riverside moms honor our heroes

RIVERSIDE, Calif. The event is to take place on Sunday, Sept. 7 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Fairmount Park's band shell.

The park is located at 2601 Park Blvd in Riverside.

Everyone is invited and the event is free.

"Fuelled by the Fallen," a memorial race car team that features '60s-era Chevy Novas with the names of fallen Marines painted on them, will also be on display. The autos are a project of actor Kevyn Major Howard from the film "Full Metal Jacket." He will also attend.

The event also features live music, as well as clowns and face painting for the children.

A 21-gun salute, Taps and a candlelight vigil take place at twilight.

"This event is to remember our fallen heroes of 9/11, local fallen heroes, police officers, firefighters, veterans and to support our troops," said Mary Badalamente of the chapter. She is a mother-in-law of a Marine major now in Iraq. "We are not about politics; we are about being Americans."
