Volunteers needed for youth court

RIVERSIDE, Calif. The court is open for all Riverside youths, ages 12-18. The volunteers work as part of the juvenile justice system in cases of other youth who have admitted to a real misdemeanor offense and have chosen to be tried by their peers.

A mandatory training session for volunteers takes place from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sept. 27, at the Riverside Convention Center, 3443 Orange St.

Volunteers are needed for jurors, bailiffs, court clerks and attorneys. Youth Court is held the second and fourth Wednesday of each month from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Volunteers will have a six-month commitment starting October and will receive three hours of community service for each court session they attend and six hours for the training.
