Volunteers needed for youth court

Applications to participate in the City of Riverside's Youth Court program for the next six months ends Sunday.The court is open for all Riverside youths, ages 12-18. The volunteers work as part of the juvenile justice system in cases of other youth who have admitted to a real misdemeanor offense and have chosen to be tried by their peers.

A mandatory training session for volunteers takes place from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sept. 27, at the Riverside Convention Center, 3443 Orange St.

Volunteers are needed for jurors, bailiffs, court clerks and attorneys. Youth Court is held the second and fourth Wednesday of each month from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Volunteers will have a six-month commitment starting October and will receive three hours of community service for each court session they attend and six hours for the training.
