More security after kidnapping attempts

LONG BEACH, Calif. Investigators said a 9-year-old boy was targeted near International Elementary School Wednesday morning. An 8-year-old girl was accosted as she walked to Edison Elementary about 30 minutes later.

Police said the incidents do not appear related.

In the first incident, a Hispanic man allegedly told the boy to get into his light blue pickup truck. The boy ran into the school and told his teachers.

About a half hour later, police said a white male tried to drag an 8-year-old into a stairwell.

The little girl kicked and struggled and got away.

"At this time, we don't think any crime occurred there, but we think it's significant, and we wanted to bring it to the public's attention," said Long Beach Police Sergeant Dan Marander.

Police are asking the public for help in finding the suspects.

The suspect in the first incident is described as a 40-year-old Hispanic man with his front teeth missing. The second suspect is described as Caucasian with white hair, spotted at Edison Elementary School.

Anyone with information on these two people is asked to call the Long Beach Police Dept. at (562) 570-7368.
