Changes in LAPD text message tip program

LOS ANGELES Chief William Bratton and Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa will unveil the changes Wednesday morning.

The program allows people to anonymously text tips on crimes to the department. They can also email the information.

Police said crimes often go unreported due to fear of retaliation from possible suspects.

They hope allowing people to send anonymous text messages will reduce that fear.
