Cemetery officials order headstones and store them until they are needed, and they had no idea the headstones were missing until they got a call from police.
When the cemetery checked their supplies, they found that 90 headstones were gone.
Copper theft has been on the rise all across the area, but police said this certainly is a new twist on the crime.
While the suspects got away, all the headstones and tablets survived after being turned in to an L.A. recycling center. They were not recycled.
Anyone with information about the theft is urged to call the Cypress Police Department at (714) 229-6631.
