SoCal Edison fined $146M for fraud

September 19, 2008 11:15:05 AM PDT
State regulators have fined Southern California Edison $146 million for fraud. The utility company has admitted some of its employees falsified customer satisfaction surveys in 2004 that allowed Edison to collect performance bonuses from customers through electricity rates.

The California Public Utilities Commission has ordered Edison to pay nearly $81 million in refunds to customers.

An Edison spokesman called the rigged survey a "very serious breach" of responsibility.
