Sweet smells mean sweet dreams?

German researchers tested different scents on a group of sleeping volunteers. Each time, they waited until the volunteers were in REM sleep, the sleep phase when most dreams occur.

The scents were wafted under their noses for 10 seconds, before waking the volunteers up one minute later.

Sleepers who got a rose scent woke up reporting pleasant dreams.

The odor of rotten eggs seemed to provoke bad dreams.
