The California Highway Patrol says three cars smashed together, sending one of them flipping through the air. All three cars sustained heavy damage.
Six people, including 51-year-old Gale Rosa, were transported to local hospitals in critical condition. Rosa, a resident of Los Angeles, later died from her injuries at UCI Medical Center.
Two others suffered moderate injuries in the crash.
The cause of accident is under investigation.
