Union Pacific gets train-stopping system

October 9, 2008 10:06:20 AM PDT
Union Pacific will now install computerized systems designed to stop trains from colliding. The move comes in response to September's deadly Metrolink train collision in Chatsworth that killed 25 people.

Union Pacific has already begun testing its version of a positive train control system which can override the actions of engineers if necessary.

The goal is have the system on shared tracks in Los Angeles by 2012.
