Yale psychologists found people tended to think of others as warm hearted and caring if they themselves had just held a warm cup of coffee as opposed to an iced drink.

A follow up experiment revealed people are more likely to give a gift to others if they held something warm, but more likely to take a gift for themselves if they just held something cold.
