October 24, 2008 12:00:00 AM PDT
A big rig carrying more than 75,000 pounds of frozen chicken overturned on the 210 Freeway in Claremont early Friday, blocking lanes and snarling the morning commute. The accident happened just after 3 a.m. on the westbound 210 between Baseline Road and Towne Avenue.

The California Highway Patrol shut down the carpool lane for hours during the morning commute as crews worked to clean up the wreckage. Some 15 gallons of diesel fuel spilled onto the roadway during the accident, as well as some of the frozen chicken.

The driver was trapped in the big rig following the crash. Rescuers had to cut open the roof of the cab to free him from the wreckage. He walked away with minor injuries.

The carpool lane was reopened shortly before 10 a.m.

It's still unclear what triggered the crash.
