Study: Obese whites face discrimination

October 24, 2008 12:00:00 AM PDT
A new study suggests Caucasians who claim to be victims of discrimination are more likely to be obese than their peers. The study in the American Journal of Public Health finds that the perception of unfair treatment is associated with increased weight.

Researchers reached their conclusions by analyzing a Chicago-area health study of more than 3,000 adults.

They had been weighed and asked questions concerning discrimination against them.

Weight was not found to be related to feelings of discrimination among blacks and Hispanics.
