He is accused of attacking a 45-year-old man, believed to be the ex-husband of Avalos' new girlfriend.
Paramedics took the victim to Long Beach Memorial Hospital. He sustained severe cuts to one of his arms but is expected to survive.
Avalos is being held on a $25-thousand dollar bond and will be arraigned on Monday with an assault with deadly weapon charge.
