Heavy pregnant women linked to heavy baby

October 31, 2008 9:11:18 AM PDT
Women who gain too much weight during pregnancy are more likely to have a heavy baby, according to a new study.Researchers found that as many as one in five women gain 40 pounds or more in a study of more than 40,000 women in the U.S. That doubles the chances that those women will give birth to babies weighing nine pounds or more.

Studies suggest babies who are heavy at birth are programmed to become overweight or obese later in life.
