Tax relief for homeowners affected by fire

SYLMAR Applications are being accepted from homeowners whose properties suffered at least $10,000 in damage. Eligible homeowners could get a corrected tax bill or refund.

Since the blaze began on Friday, it has wiped out more than 600 structures and damaged many others.

Homeowners can receive more information by calling the Assessor's Office at (214) 974-3119. Applications are available for download on the department's Web site.

Any adjustment of the taxes will be based on the reduction in value through the end of the fiscal year ending June 30, 2009, or until the structure is repaired or replaced.
