Meth lab prompts San Pedro evacuations

Police were investigating a possible methamphetamine production laboratory in San Pedro Monday afternoon.Officers from LAPD Harbor Division were called to an apartment complex on the 28000 block of Western Ave. in San Pedro in response to a report of flooding.

Officers discovered the suspected lab in one unit of the complex. A suspicious device was found on the balcony of the suspected meth-lab unit. A bomb squad was also called to the scene.

The apartment complex was being evacuated. The process of production of methamphetamine is volatile and potentially explosive, a danger to public health.

LAPD was bringing in help from other divisions.
