Deadline to put Jamiel's Law on ballot

LOS ANGELES The initiative is named for 17-year-old Jamiel Shaw, who was shot to death last March.

The proposal allows police to arrest undocumented gang members before they commit a crime.

Shaw was allegedly shot by a 19-year-old illegal alien, who is also a reputed gang member.

To put Jamiel's Law on the May ballot, supporters need nearly 74,000 signatures by the end of Friday. Sp far, they have 68,000 signatures.
