Excessive sugar can affect the brain

New research shows excessive amounts of sugar can be create the same kinds of changes in the brain that are seen in addiction. Princeton researchers found that bingeing on sugar can act on the brain in a very similar way to drugs like cocaine and nicotine.

Sugar bingeing can cause long lasting effects on the brain and in animal studies, created withdrawal symptoms.

The author of the study hopes their findings may some day be applied to the treatment of eating disorders like bulimia.
