O.C. woman mauled by 3 bullmastiffs

LAGUNA HILLS, Calif. Police said the attack was immediately after the dogs, weighing between 100 to 150 pounds, attacked another man in the neighborhood.

It's unclear how the dogs got out of their fenced yard, but they made their way up Terra Bella Street and attacked Ed Barnard, who was standing by his truck.

"When they got out, it was like you'd see a pack running. They just followed the big dog. Whatever it did, they did," Barnard said.

The dogs bit him in the thigh, but he was able to get away and call 911. In the meantime, the dogs attacked their second victim, a woman believed to be in her 60s.

"I saw three huge dogs pulling this gal from the sidewalk into the middle of the street," said Jim Warren, who helped the victim.

"As I'm running full speed, I'm just yelling and screaming as loud as I can. The three dogs were just mauling this poor gal," he said.

Warren said he jumped on the dogs, and it actually took a neighbor with a shovel hitting the dogs over the head before they would let go of the woman and take off.

The victim's condition is unknown, but authorities said her injuries were not life threatening.

The three dogs were euthanized Thursday night at the request of the dogs' owner.
