Stray bullet kills L.A. Sheriff's clerk

SOUTH LOS ANGELES Someone opened fire at around 9:30 p.m. on 50th Street near Central Avenue, and police said the intended target was 23-year-old Alexander Castro, who was driving at the time of the shooting.

Castro was hit several times, but a stray bullet also struck 34-year-old Adriana Pizarro, a Sheriff's Department clerk.

Friends said she had just finished Christmas shopping with her family and was standing in front of her parents' home.

"What do you say? What do you say? Somebody decided to shoot at somebody else and she was just coming out to get a soda or something and now she's dead," said the victim's friend Maria Gonzalez.

Pizzaro was transported to a local hospital, where she later died.

Castro crashed into several cars on 50th Street and was pronounced dead at the scene.

No one has been arrested.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Los Angeles Police Department at (877) LAPD-24-7.
