Truck plows through home, misses family

SANTA ANA, Calif. The accident happened just after midnight on the 400 block of North Fairview Road at the site of Mini-Storage, where the manager of the property and his family live.

The pickup truck went straight through a sliding glass door of a home, through a dining room area and a living room and rammed into a wall on the other side of the house.

Authorities said the truck had been traveling southbound on Fairview, when the suspected drunken driver lost control of the vehicle, crossed the median, knocked down a fence and plowed into the house.

The on-site manager, his wife, two small children and a niece were all asleep inside at the time when the truck crashed within a few inches of them.

"The Christmas tree, the TV, the Blu-ray discs, all the DVDs were all shattered and scattered about the building, and there's a couch and a chair sitting right there, so if it was earlier in the day, they probably would have been sitting right there watching TV," said Capt. Grady Marquez from the Santa Ana Fire Department.

Fortunately, no one was injured.

When firefighters arrived, there was a gas leak, but they managed to shut down the gas without incident.

The driver was arrested and booked on suspicion of driving under the influence.
