Son charged in Sylmar mom's beating death

SYLMAR, Calif. The victim's son has been charged in the murder. The body of the woman was found inside a yellow trailer in Sylmar early Wednesday morning.

The identity of the victim has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

Police responded to a burglary call in the 16000 block of Yarnell Street just after 1 a.m. A couple in their mid-30s, including the victim's son, met police when they arrived. The couple was taken to the station for questioning, and the son was consequently arrested.

Police said the victim may have been beaten to death with a baseball bat.

Neighbors are shaken by the homicide and spoke highly of the victim.

"Nice lady, she was on the front porch every single morning, out with her dogs. If she wasn't walking them, she was sitting with them on the porch," said neighbor David Byrd.

Police said there was a history of domestic violence between mother and son.
