When officers tried to detain those involved, someone pulled out a gun, police said, and an officer shot his weapon.
The armed man took off and barricaded himself in a nearby apartment. Residents from at least two apartment complexes were evacuated and taken to a school.
The man eventually surrendered.
No one was hurt in the incident.
