Scan may expose patients to radiation

LOS ANGELES On average, going under the 64 slice CT scan exposes patients to the amount of radiation contained in 600 chest X-rays. The amount of radiation varied considerably, however. Some patients received exposure up to 1,200 chest X-rays.

Experts say overall the risks are still low, but doctors need to be aware of the high doses and take steps to minimize them.
