Record box office nixes movie tax breaks

HOLLYWOOD The proposal would have qualified film projects started this year to qualify for a 50 percent tax write off. Senators pointed to January's more than one billion dollars in movie ticket sales as proof the film industry doesn't need any federal help.

The Motion Picture Association says economic troubles are hurting Hollywood, drying up financing for new projects and slowing DVD sales.
