Police said they were pursuing a car matching the description of one used in an armed robbery when the suspect got out of the car and ran.
Officers said they opened fire because they feared for their lives, but investigators said no weapons were found at the scene.
Police, the Sheriff's homicide unit and the D.A.'s Office are all investigating the shooting.
