Mayor calls for more water restrictions

LOS ANGELES The mayor is asking to restrict outdoor irrigation to two days a week, on Mondays and Thursdays only. This will fall under his 20-year water strategy, which is in response to the water shortage.

/*Villaraigosa*/ proposed that the /*Department of Water and Power*/ doubles its number of water conservation teams and to add enforcement hours.

Statewide reservoir levels are at a third of their capacity, the lowest since the 1976-78 drought. Villaraigosa says California will face significant water shortages this year, plus court-imposed limits on imported water.

The DWP board will vote on his proposals later this month.
